Puriri is growing!  Not only have we had yet another birthday celebration but we have had three new students join our class!  Jagjot, Liyah and Pinak were welcomed with a mihi whakatau where we greeted them with karakia and waitā.  Their pre-school classes passed them to us and we accepted them into the Puriri whanau with joy and aroha. It’s so exciting to have new community members to learn with, welcome all three!

Robin also came for a quick visit again last week.  She is planning to pop in more often and hopefully read with the children.  The children were really happy to see her and gave her lots of happy hugs as soon as they had confirmed that she was, in fact, ‘the real Robin’!

A group of children went on a mission of discovery on Friday – they wanted to know how glow sticks worked so they consulted an expert.  They emailed Stuart, our high school science teacher saying:

“Somebody gave us some lightsticks and we want to know how they work.  We think it is liquid but does liquid glow?  Please can we come to your science lab with you and put on goggles and see how it works?”

Stuart was glad to oblige and invited them to his lab.  They found out about chemical reactions and as they were so fascinated by the model of the human body in the lab, they also had an anatomy lesson (because there is no stopping curious kids)! Stuart said he was very impressed by their questions and courtesy.
