Kia Ora whānau,

Over the last couple of weeks Tania has told a couple of stories to the class.  The first was the history of the alphabet.  This is a Montessori Great Story which shows the development of the written word up to our current alphabet.  Some tamariki have since been inspired to research more about Egypt and Hieroglyphics and look at different alphabets in history and have a go at writing these.

The other story Tania told was the historical recount of what happened at Parihaka back in the 1800s.  The main idea of this recount is that people can stand up for themselves and fight back in a peaceful manner.

It was great to see so many people dressed up for book week!!  It was also great to hear of all the shenanigans the toys got up to on ‘toys take over the library day!’

It was fabulous to celebrate Buzz and Addison’s birthdays with their whānau joining us for their birthday walks!

Some of the tamariki have been learning about probability recently.  Arjun and Manu, in this lesson, were predicting how likely it was to pick out a particular coloured bead – dependent on how many of that colour were in the bag compared to the number of other coloured beads.

We have had a couple of ‘going out’s’ in the past couple of weeks.  One group bought baking ingredients and baked delicious cake and muffins for the class and another group went and got swan plants so we can witness the lifecycle of the butterfly here at school.
